children's health and vaccination
On Wednesday, 15th November 2006, Glenda and I ventured to yet another seminar which was held in the Community Centre at Byron Bay. The topic under discussion was 'Children's health and vaccinations' and was presented by the president of Informed Voice Magazine and the Austn Vaccination Network (AVN), Meryl Dorey.
Much information was presented and the question was asked, 'Why are a generation of babies and children receiving up to 50 vaccines by school age and what effect is this having on their immune systems?'
Given that the brain and immune system develop most rapidly in the first five years of life, it is a question that deserves some attention.
At Glenda Wilks Homeopathy clinic, it is our belief that parents need to make their own decision based on all information from both views. We have no opinion for or against and have no right or desire to impose our own personal view on this very delicate matter. Parents need to make an informed decision based on factual info and given family history and individual susceptibilities. The AVN suggests the following:
If you vaccinate, ask 8:
1) Is my child sick right now?
2) Has my child had a bad reaction previously?
3) Does my child have a personal history or family history of:
- Vaccine reactions
- Convulsions or neurological disorders
- Severe allergies
- Immune system disorders
4) Do I know if my child is at high risk of reacting?
5) Do I know how to identify a vaccine reaction?
6) Do I know how to report a vaccine reaction?
7) Do I know the vaccine's manufacturers name and lot no?
8) Do I know I have a choice?
Given my scientific background I will say that I feel it is important to register any side effect from vaccinations - so we can gain a better understanding of the effects vaccines have on our children.
With any issue, it is important to place bias aside and try to look objectively at the information given. If you are considering vaccinating your children and would like to hear both sides of the story, there are two places you need to visit:
